Our Mission.

House of Charity was born from the seat of a Ford Focus, where Charity Lockhart and her two children found themselves living after a painful divorce. With no rental history, denied housing, and the burden of bankruptcy, she started over, leaning on faith, resilience, and the power of her voice as a professional singer. Her first home purchase in Ohio, once a symbol of her healing, is now a place of hope for others.Today, House of Charity is being renovated by Charity herself with no government funding, just the work of her hands, heart, the support of performances, and generous donations. Every dollar is accounted for, every nail hammered with purpose. The vision is clear: to provide safe transitional housing for up to three families at a time, offering not just shelter, but tools for transformation—financial literacy, nutrition through an on-site greenhouse, and classes in a shared meeting room. This is a place where families can regroup, rebuild, and ultimately transition into homes of their own.House of Charity was created to restore dignity, teach sustainability, and help families rise from homelessness to hope.TO DONATE: While House Of Charity awaits their 501c3 determination, First Church UCC is serving as our fiduciary.
